Large hole in ozone layer closed but unrelated to coronavirus lockdown

Earlier this year in March, scientist discovered a hole of about 1 million square kilometres earth’s ozone layer. It was the largest hole ever in the ozone layer and was mostly caused by the unusual atmospheric condition.

The Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) and The Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) by the European Centre For Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECWMF) confirmed today that the hole is healed.

Scientific report on the hole states that hole closed due to a split in the polar vortex. The split allowed cold air into the arctic region. The report also said that the closure has nothing to with the lower pollution levels during the coronavirus lockdown.
