NIN ID card will be ready within 12 months of getting the registration slip

NIN ID card.

The National Identity Number is an 11-digit number provided by the National Identity Management Commission, NIMC.

It uniquely identifies a citizen of Nigeria as well as legal resident in Nigeria who are of age 16 and above.

The NIMC has an arrangement for the enrolment process beginning with an online form to submit demographic data. Finally a visit to the approved registration centre for NIN completion.

This requires the appliant to be physically present for capture of biometric data – face and fingerprints. You have to enrol for your NIN individually as it is a personal identification number which bears your biometrics.

This arrangement makes it impossible to obtain or update NIN for a spouse, relative, friend or boss.

Process for capturing applicants of NIN 16 years and above (Adult Enrolment):

Note that this rule applies to older adults, invalids, applicants who cannot read or write who need help with enrolment. NIMC requires those who cannot read to come with someone to the NIN registration centre.

  • Bring all supporting documentation along to the enrolment centre.
  • NIMC officer will search through the NIN verification portal to see if an applicant has ever enrolled or if they need to fill a form.
  • Applicants who have enrolled prior to the visit to the enrollment centre will be asked for the printed barcode slip.
  • The Barcode slip will be scanned.
  • NIMC Official will vet the forms and crosscheck the information on the form against the supporting documentation.
  • The biometrics of the adult will be capture.
  • NIMC will give the applicant a transaction slip after completing the enrolment as evidence of the transaction and it is not a National Identification Number.
  • Within 1-5 working days, an applicant can come back for the NIN slip which is also not the e-ID card.

When will NIMC issue NIN ID card

The NIMC will issue the National e-ID Card within 12 months after the Issuance of NIN.
