Amnesty International Seeks Justice For Lekki Killings

Femi Adesina, spokesperson for the president said that Amnesty International is wrong on its claims on the Lekki killings

The series of events from the End SARS protest is momentarily recounted with the Lekki toll plaza killings and Nigerians are demanding justice.

The same event made its way to the human rights group, Amnesty International. It is now asking the federal government to prosecute those responsible for the shooting.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army had commented on the October 20 incident claiming that it did not kill any protester. It says the Lagos state government had invited it to impose the curfew and restore order. At no time did soldiers shoot protesters, the statement by Nigerian army chief Tukur Yusuf Buratai says.

Amnesty International in a statement tells the government to stop attempts to cover up the Lekki Toll Plaza killings. Its reports also specify a timeline events from the beginning of the End SARS protest on October 8, 2020.

The group says its underground investigation shows that the Nigeria army and police killed 12 persons at the Alausa and Lekki venues of End SARS protest.

For clarity, Amnesty says it is in possession of a video with the military on their from Bonny camp to the scene of the shooting. They went through Ozumba Mbadiwe and several foreign embassies and consulates. Also, there is a possible plan to cover up the murder with the deactivation CCTV in the area at the same time.

How is the government responding to Lekki Killings

According to Femi Adesina, spokesperson for the president, Amnesty International is wrong on these claims. A pro-panel set up in Lagos is investigating the killings Adesina said.

Any reports on the media and from the government now are premature until that panel comes up with its report. The state governments are to set up the judicial panels in their jurisdiction, the federal government can not he added.

This brings the case back to the Lagos state government who says that military only answers to the president.
