Coronavirus grows faster in Africa
Coronavirus Testing Update – Coronavirus cases are growing faster outside Europe, China and the Americas as was the case. Many countries fear that a second wave will be twice as hard.
In Nigeria, the government warns citizens about travelling to countries where the second wave is stronger.
The Nigeria governor’s forum recently met virtually where concerns about low COVID-19 testing capacities in states were raised. It was later stated that testing capacities will be improved in all states.
Coronavirus Testing Update
The growth rate of coronavirus in Africa had been slow but recently that is changing as lockdowns were cleared and students back in school.

All precautionary measures taken – wearing masks, washing hands and temperature checks – are still not as effective as the lockdown.
However, the lockdowns seem like the most impracticable thing to do as governments struggle with shrinking economies.
South Africa has led on the number of coronavirus figures in Africa with 730,548 cases, 19,585 deaths and 660,185 recoveries.
Egypt comes after SA with 108,329 cases, 6,318 deaths and 99,874 recoveries.

The COVID-19 figures in Nigeria – 63,328 cases, 1,155 deaths and 59,675 recoveries is about half that of Egypt.
The total figures recorded for the African continent is 1,850,066 confirmed cases of Covid-19 and 44,205 deaths. At least 1,535,747 have made full recovery.

Globally COVID-19 cases have surpassed 40 million, the death toll is above one million and currently at 1,236,623. Notable coronavirus death figures as the first known cases approach one year –

- The U.K. – 47,742 deaths
The world has also recorded 34,891,448 recoveries.
