MTN Nigeria To Fully Support eSIM After One Year Trial

MTN now support eSIM in Nigeria

Two mobile network operators in Nigeria, MTN and 9Mobile are starting a trial for embedded Subscriber Identification Modules (eSIM) service in the country.

Though MTN had announced the trial in August, both MNOs recently got the approval of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC). The goal of the trial which will see the operators deliver 5, 000 eSIMs is to learn the efficiency of the eSIM and this will last for a year.

It is also a technical assessment mechanism for providers’ systems as they plan to vend, commission’s Executive Vice Chairman, Prof. Umar Danbatta noted.

As the range of capable devices become more widely available, the mobile network operators will make eSIM service available to its customers after the trial. Devices like Galaxy watches and Samsung S20 series, Apple watches and iPhone 11 range of phones, as well as Google high-end Pixel phones, enable eSIM.
