“Where You Shop Matters” – Visa Initiative In Nigeria For Businesses

Where You Shop Matters Nigeria

A new initiative “Where You Shop Matters” have been launched by Visa, digital payments corporation in Nigeria. The “Where You Shop Matters” initiative will encourage consumers to patronize small business owners as well as support and empower entrepreneurs.

According to a survey by Visa which was done with the COVID-19 CEMEA Impact Tracker, consumer habit changed during the pandemic. E-Commerce activities and digital payments spiked during the lockdown throughout the world and in Nigeria too.

The COVID-19 CEMEA Impact Tracker highlights the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic on businesses in Nigeria.

It was observed that a number of people shopped when it was absolutely for essentials. Others shopped more items at once whenever they went to brick & mortar stores. Otherwise, consumers mostly stayed away from the stores and shopped less. Merchant behaviours also changed as they try to understand the new consumer behaviour and trying to adapt.

Also, a good number of people in Nigeria had never shopped online until the pandemic according to survey results. Following this shift from cash transactions to digital and online payments, Visa set up the Small Business Hub for the “Where You Shop Matters” purposes in Nigeria.

Visa Small Business Hub is open from June 17 and small businesses can find an opportunity with merchants there. Tools and information on how to begin, run and grow small businesses are also provided in the hub.
