What is Hantavirus, how does it spread and what are the symptoms?

What is Hantavirus

It is not yet certain when the cure and vaccine for the new coronavirus pandemic will be ready and this bothers people enough. Now with the onset of yet another virus called Hantavirus amidst the fight against coronavirus, everyone fears that the world is looking at its end. But that is not really the case if you understand what Hantavirus is.

What is Hantavirus?

Hantavirus is not a new virus and has existed in China for some years now. Like Lassa fever in Nigeria rodents are the original causes of Hantavirus as reported on the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention website. When humans come in contact with rodents, they are at a high risk of contracting the virus.

Rodent droppings and urine contain a high amount of the virus to infect anyone who touches them and then rubs their eyes, nose and mouth. A man in the Yunnan province of China recently died less than 24 hours after testing positive for Hantavirus according to news reports. He could have contacted the virus from taking any of these actions and now 32 other people are tested for the virus and are waiting for their results.

A person with Hantavirus can not infect another person, but a rodent-infested environment puts anyone at risk. More than half this virus patients would experience muscle and headaches, dizziness, chills, problems in the abdomen like nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea. Shortness of breath could come at a later stage.
