TEF – EU Collaboration Will Train And Fund 2, 500 Women In Africa

The joint initiative between the Tony Elumelu Foundation and the European Union (TEF/EU) targets wealth creation and expansion of businesses owned by women in Africa.

Hence, the method of this initiative will help women realize their full potential and help get them involved in economic development.

The TEF/Eu partnership is committing €20 million as support for the economic empowerment of women on the continent who lack access to finance and venture capital investment.

The methods, results and experience of the TEF Entrepreneurship Programmes over the last 10 years earns it a positive judgment from the EU.

Over 10, 000 African entrepreneurs have built successful businesses after receiving training, mentorships and funding on the TEF programme.

At least half the number of TEF success stories are from women the programme strives at gender balance.

The EU’s participation in this initiative is part of its EU External Investment Plan to support women economic empowerment within the EU Gender Action Plan (GAP III).

Hence the initivate will be guided by the EU’s Gender Equality Strategy 2020-2025 for the next years.

While strengthening the EU-Africa relationship, the TEF/EU initiative will authenticate the TEF entrepreneurial experience.

Who can apply for the TEF/EU women initiative – Women in all 54 countries of Africa are eligible to apply. They must also have the right to work in the country of their residence. TEF/EU women initiative opens for application in 2021.
