The federal government have given orders for both Lagos and Abuja international airports, Nigeria, to reopen on September 5. Hadi Sirika, the aviation minister who spoke during a briefing on Thursday said that they are prepared to reopen without any hitches. They have put in place all the necessary measures, as well as, instructions for travellers to make payments for a COVID-19 test upon arrival to Nigeria.
Only approved airlines are to operate in Nigeria as major European airlines including Air France, KLM and Lufthansa remain restricted.
“For Lagos airport, Delta, Emirates, Qatar, Kenya, British Airways, Africa World Airlines (AWA) and Middle East airlines” will operate there.
“For Abuja British Airways, Egypt Air, Emirates, Ethiopia, Middle East Alliance, Turkish Airlines and Africa World Airlines (AWA)”.
These airlines are to make sure that no passenger is COVID-19 positive or the passenger will be sent back. A Nigerian onboard any airline arriving the country and tests positive for COVID-19 will be quarantined. Also, travellers are to take COVID-19 test not more than four days before their trip into the country.
Having made these travel decisions on two items – the foreign carrier operating permit and the guidelines by the COVID-19 task force, airlines will be fined $3500 per passenger for failing to comply with the requirements.
Where to make payment for PCR COVID-19 tests before coming to Nigeria
All travellers to Nigeria are to make a payment via the national payment portal, Nigeria international travel portal http://nitp.ncdc.gov.ng. The payment is for PCR COVID-19 tests in the country.
