ASUU Strike Update – FG Says ASUU Will Not Avoid IPPIS

ASUU Strike Update

ASUU Strike Update

The Federal Government has considered the University Transparency and Accountability Solution, UTAS presented by Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU members. However, it is standing on IPPIS enrollment for ASUU members.

According to Dr Chris Ngige, Minister of Labour and Employment, who gave an update on the ASUU strike, the FG is unable to meet with its demands. Therefore ASUU must comply with the IPPIS enrollment.

The UTAS had been delivered by ASUU to the National Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA last week for trial.

As ASUU president Prof Biodun Ogunyemi said, universities will reopen as early as it takes the government to facilitate the integrity test of the UTAS. However, the FG still insists that ASUU members enrol on IPPIS first.

ASUU Strike Update – Why the FG insists that ASUU must enroll on the IPPIS

The government says that all ASUU members must first cross the IPPIS even with UTAS developed.

According to Chris Ngige, ASUU must first get on the IPPIS before the UTAS portal ready. The FG says ASUU can revert to their portal later. More so, he listed three items that are working against ASUU at this time.

ASUU’s refusal to accept the Revitalization offer of N20billion instead insisting on N110billion.

The union want to have all N30billion for Earned Allowances but the government says it is for all the unions in the universities. This is part of the that both parties agreed on earlier before other unions came onboard.

ASUU is not clear as to which portal they want to receive salaries and allowances if the FG were to order payment. The previous method of payment, GIFMIS portal is now closed and there is no portal available to pay salaries now.
