ASUU Meeting With Government Officials Over Strike Today

ASUU

The ongoing ASUU warning strike began as an objection against the lack of February payment for lecturers who have not registered on the IPPIS.

In hopes for the government to resolve issues relating to the strike, they are meeting with ASUU officials today, Tuesday. Senior officials of ASUU have confirmed this to Premium Times. “We will be meeting with the federal government by 3 p.m.,” the official said.

Latest on ASUU Strike

As instructed some of the university teachers have enrolled on Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS). However, this does not include ASUU members as the union warns them not to enrol in the IPPIS.

They continue to push for an integration of the University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS) into the IPPIS, which the federal government is failing to do. ASUU cites reasons for opposing the IPPIS saying that it is limited when considering certain university operations.

In exception of those who have enrolled on IPPIS, lecturers are yet to receive payments for February. Depending on what happens today at the meeting, ASUU officials have said that they will proceed to indefinite strike if issues are not resolved.

Premium Times also reports that the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU)is also stepping back on its support for the implementation of the IPPIS. The union cites various abnormalities in the salaries of February salaries of its members. They have a sense of betrayal after noticing the IPPIS overlooks its Peculiar Earned Academic Allowance (PEAA).
