What is Unclaimed Shares? – How to Find and Claim Them

What is Unclaimed Shares

When people get into the capital market, they could chase returns deep enough to buy and sell shares with other people’s names. Unclaimed shares refer to investments which people make in the name of an unidentified person or company. Due to changes in banking systems, government operations or even in the stock market, some shares could go unidentified for years.

Family members who used the names of their children or someone related to buy stock probably never informed the person. Government database is often filled with unclaimed shares. In some cases, the figures for unclaimed dividends often depend heavily on unclaimed shares.

Until recent years, these data could only be accessed at authorized government offices, stockbrokers or the stock market. But, it is easier now as everything moved to the internet. It is important to check these records online for pending shares or dividend in one’s name. The process is different everywhere but it is also easy as long as the person making the claim has proof.
