New Fertilizer Law in Nigeria – Illegal Agro Dealers Will Face The Law

Fertilizer Law in Nigeria

The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is notifying the public that it is going to jail anyone caught in illegal agro deals, producing and importing adulterated fertilizers. The FG had established the implementation of the fertilizer law in Nigeria which it calls the National Fertilizer Quality Control (NFQC) Act 2019 to ensure safe farming practices and good fertilizer for farms.

More so, NFQC Act 2019 law forbids random people to go into fertilizer business in Nigeria. According to the ministry, anyone who wants to deal on fertilizers in Nigeria must register with the Farm Inputs Support Services Department, FISSD. Therefore, under the NFQC Act 2019 law, producers and traders of adulterated fertilizer in Nigeria will go to jail if they are caught.

The market for adulterated fertilizers advanced in the last years in Nigeria as is the harm on local farm produce. Adulterated fertilizers are hazardous to farmers as well as the environment and the people as they contain toxic materials.

The new law targets increased food harvests and farm outputs as farmers would have better, efficient fertilizer in farms. The law could also bolster investments for agro-business owners and dealers while safeguarding the interests of farmers and the public.
