NCC on the use of GSM Boosters
The Nigerian Communications Commission NCC, alongside the Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, has announced that the sale, installation and usage of GSM boosters, is illegal.
The circular bearing the information above states that it is a pre-information to unauthorised dealers and users of GSM (Network) boosters.

The statement reads: ” The Nigerian Communications Commission informs the general public particularly banks and other finiancial insututions, government agencies, telecommunications service providers private and public companies and owners/occupiers of residential premises.”
According to the NCC, it is an offence to sell, instal or use any requirement which may hinder network operations or which has not been type-approved by the commission.
The unauthorised use or sales of GSM boosters is therefore punishable by the law as it is in accordance with the provisions of Section 131[1] of the Nigerian Communications Act NCA] 2003.
In exercise of its mandate of ensuring the protection of consumers ensuring good quality of service and maintenance of technical standards of communications equipment.
Such acts may lead to monetary sanction and/or imprisonment or both (fine and imprisonment) as well as the confiscation of any equipment used in the illegal enhancement of network coverage.
The NCC is requesting that any person engaging in the sales or installation, as well as the use of GMS boosters, has 14 days to stop. The pre-enforcement notice is effective from Tuesday, May 18 until June 1, 2021.
A GSM booster is used by a lot of people in Nigeria to boost cellular reception through a wireless system.
