Sani Abacha Loot of $311m Handed to Nigerian Government

The US and the British dependency of Jersey have handed to the Nigerian government a stolen amount of money ($311m) which is part of the late General Sani Abacha loot.

A statement from the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami’s contains the information.

Nigeria received the money after it had gone through legal processes for over six years since 2014. They have been working tirelessly to return some of the money stolen by Sani Abacha, the then head of states. In February 2020, it was approved and agreements signed by the governments of Nigeria, United States, and Jersey.

The agreement includes a directory that Nigeria will channel the Abacha loot into infrastructure. If the money is used otherwise they will be asked to replace it.
