Final Verification of Ex-Nigeria Airways Workers Begins
The federal government of Nigeria has announced the commencement of the final verification exercise of Nigeria Airways workers who were laid off in liquidation. Virgin Nigeria took over the operations of the airline two years later.
For over 18 years, ex-workers are still waiting to collect their pension in full.

The Presidential Initiative on Continuous Audit, (PICA), a department of the Federal Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Aviation are collaborating in the verification exercise.
The statement says that the mop-up exercise: “is meant to verify ex-workers of the defunct Nigeria Airways who have genuine claims but are yet to be paid”.
More so, this verification exercise of ex-workers of Nigeria Airways is the last the Ministry of Finance will carry out.

“The Federal Government is determined to ensure that all former public workers, especially those of liquidated agencies, who have genuine and legitimate claims, are not denied of such, the statement concludes.”
Nigeria Airways was a flag carrier, and government was the sole owner until its liquidation in 2003.
Foreign companies like British Airways and KLM managed the airline until its cessation.
