Dangote Refinery Set To Commence Operation In 2022

Dangote Refinery Operation

Operation at the Dangote oil refinery is set to commence in 2022, new information from Devakumar Edwin, the group director reveals.

The director told reporters at the beginning of January, “middle of next year, we start the commissioning process and it may take three to four months.”

A recent statement from the Dangote Group further acknowledges the African Continental Free Trade Area, AfCFTA deal. Notably, the deal will aid the group in its cement expansion plan and fertiliser investments in Africa.

However, there could still be a challenge with poor road networks for the refinery and the transport of crude oil when operations begin.

A proper road network is significant to the projects especially if Nigeria is going to harness the full potentials of the Dangote refinery and secure the benefits of the AfTCA.

Edwin rightly acknowledges that saying that the chances of building a pipeline for oil distribution are slim as operations will largely depend on well-built road networks as well as on shuttle vessels.

The Lagos State government has plans to build a road to connect the Dangote refinery with the Benin-Sagamu expressway.

Dangote Refinery commissioning and opening

The commissioning process will precede the entry of petroleum products from the Dangote refinery into the market.

Major refining units, reactor, regenerator and fluid catalytic cracker and more are already in place at the project site.

With the future operation of the Dangote refinery insight, Nigeria is hopeful that its fuel import will drop and crude export will grow in 2022.

Both light and medium grade crude will be processed at Dangote refinery.

It will double the refining capacity of about 37 billion barrels for Nigeria while helping the country meet rising domestic fuel demand.
