Staying on life support for coronavirus treatment turned the skin colour of two Chinese doctors to black. Both doctors had been treating coronavirus patients when the took ill and where taken in for treatment on different occasions.
The dark skin colour is their bodies responding to the drugs they received when treatment was commencing. More so, their damaged livers which caused a hormonal imbalance can be blamed for the change in colour.
Both Chinese doctors received an ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) during treatment of coronavirus. Blood oxygenation can take place outside a patient’s body when they are on the ECMO.
The Chinese doctors’ black skin colours will go back to normal as their livers begin to recover.
