How Does China Benefit form exporting used cars to Nigeria?

Getting rid of old cars with higher emissions is a global concern, however, not all countries have taken steps towards that. Some countries are gradually implementing electric cars and might need to get of rid fossil fuel cars.

China is one of those currently focusing on electric and self-driving cars. Therefore, the new trade with Nigeria is mainly to eliminate the use of fossil fuel cars and boost electric car sales in China as well as the overall health of its automobile industry.

China also wants to improve and lock in on other foreign trades as the trade war between them and the US tightens. This trade war automatically makes a country like Nigeria a battleground for China and the US. Also, the most recent news on China’s economy just revealed that the country is seeing a 27-year-low growth. This spells disaster.

Does Nigeria Need Used Cars from China?

It will be a while before Africa will move towards contributing to the environment with a large scale transition to electric vehicles.

Particularly, it will be a total challenge in a country like Nigeria to use electric cars as they might not be immediately affordable.

More so, the power supply in the country is going to make it practically impossible. So, it is not a completely bad idea if China wants to unload used cars in Nigeria while it moves towards electricity.

These more affordable used vehicles will help solve mobility and transport demands for the country’s average population.

The import is currently doing more than get damaged autos off the roads in the country. Nigerians are also saving money compared to buying expensive cars imported from the US and new cars are usually not within the budget of the average Nigerian.

One important to note is that the trade of used cars from China will not be too favourable for new car dealers in the country.
