Nigeria reopened its airspace for international flight operations on September 5 but not to all usual operating airlines. The aviation minister Hadi Sirika, in a statement listed international airlines and flights that are approved in Nigeria now.
Flights from the UK, US, Quater, Ethiopia, Togo Cote d’Ivoire, UAE, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Egypt, Kenya, Lebanon and Turkey are allowed into the country. Airlines flying the said routes – Africa World Airlines, British Airways, Delta Air, Qatar Airways, Emirates Airline and Ethiopian Airlines – have permission to enter the country.

However, European airlines, as well as a number of African airlines, are not approved to operate in Nigeria. This includes Lufthansa, Air France, KLM, Etihad Airways, RwandAir, TAAG Angola, Air Namibia and Royal Air Maroc. The minister said that it is as a result of similar restrictions imposed on flights from Nigeria.
The statement from the minister also shows which airport in Nigeria that approved airlines are allowed to land.
For Abuja airport – British Airways, Egypt Air, Emirates, Ethiopia, Middle East Alliance, Turkish Airlines and Africa World Airlines (AWA).
For Lagos airport – Qatar, Kenya, British Airways, Africa World Airlines (AWA), Middle East, Delta and Emirates.
These airlines are to make sure that no passenger is COVID-19 positive or the passenger will be sent back. A Nigerian onboard any airline arriving the country and tests positive for COVID-19 will be quarantined. Also, travellers are to take COVID-19 test not more than four days before their trip into the country and pay on the travel portal for COVID-19 test.
