France’s biggest telecommunication company, Orange is about to multiply its presence in Africa. Orange is adding two countries, Nigeria and South Africa to its already existing customers on the continent.
Its manifestations in Africa and especially its attempt to enter Nigeria goes way back. This might offer some back up to its entry.
Before it became 9mobile, Etisalat Nigeria got an offer from Orange to sell a 65% stake during its 2017 crisis. Orange has also had a few notable impressions and investments in the South African market.
Orange in Nigeria
When a telco is making entry into a new country, it could either start with a fresh license or acquire one from an existing telecom license holder. It is unknown what route Orange will take with its entry.
Orange already has millions subscribed to its services in 18 countries in Africa and the Middle East. Telecoms in Nigeria already have a number of features they offer customers which will make the space tight for Orange. Some services that Orange might offer its potential customers if it makes it into both countries include:
- Orange Money
- Orange Energy
- Digital Schools
- Orange provides solutions to agriculture and health as well as invest millions into startups in Africa
- Orange offers video-on-demand services
