Ramadan 2020 in Africa during the coronavirus pandemic

Ramadan 2020 in Africa

As demanded by the Islamic tradition, the Muslims are currently awaiting the appearance of the crescent moon to commence the 2020 Ramadan. Fasting 2020 starts right after spotting the moon which is expected on Thursday, April 23 this year. However, the Ramadan 2020 moon will likely appear first in certain locations including North Africa on Friday, April 24 according to reports.

The fasting time table basically follows the rising and setting of the sun in different locations around the world. The Ramadan 2020 will have a few changes given the rare life’s situation brought by the coronavirus pandemic.

All Ramadan 2020 activities including prayers will take place online throughout the world with one exception in Africa, Nigeria. Bauchi, Niger, Katsina and Kogi states will allows large gatherings for the Friday congregational prayers.

Other countries observing the Ramadan 2020 including Saudi Arabia are applying the large gathering rule with changes as well.

Normally, the program exempts the elderly and the sick, as well as the pregnant and underaged. This year people who are in the risk group might have to join them as a new guideline for the fasting shows.

Taraweeh and Tahajjud prayers will hold in Saudi Arabia’s Makkah and Medina without the attendance of worshippers.
