The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has been ordered by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Pantami to withdraw the N20 USSD charges required for NIN retrieval requests, effective immediately.

A press statement signed by the spokesperson to the Minister of Communications & Digital Economy, Mrs Uwa Suleiman gave the notice.
According to Suleiman, the minister’s directive is necessary to ensure an easier and affordable process.
The Executive Vice Chairman NCC and the Director-General of NIMC, have agreed to waive the cost according to the letter.
“By this waiver, all Nigerians, subscribers and applicants can access the service using the *346# code for their NIN retrieval at no charge for the duration of the NIN/SIM Card integration exercise”, Uwa Suleiman said.
The cancellation of the N20 charge will last as long as the NIN/SIM integration exercise is on.
The FG recently directed that mobile network subscribers integrate their NIN with SIM for security purposes.
