The sixteen weeks selection process for the director-general, DG, of the World Trade Organisation, WTO weighs Ngozi Okonjo Iweala as a suitable candidate.
The former finance minister in Nigeria excels above her last standing rival, Yoo Myung Hee, by a wide margin. She got the support of over 100 member states and her long-standing career in trade elevated her chances.
Sources from the European Union dropped the news and the WTO will officially announce the win later in the day. According to the news sources, the development economist, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala got recommendations to lead the WTO from a key group of ambassadors in the final selection process.
This clears Nigeria’s candidate Ngozi Okonjo Iweala to be the new World Trade Organisation, WTO Director-General, DG.
The WTO will officially earn two new records – a first female director-general and a representation of the African continent.
