The American conglomerate, General Electric Company, GE announced the completion of the gas turbine rehabilitation project at three power plants controlled by the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) in Nigeria.

The three power plants are located in Sapele and Calabar, Nigeria and the rehabilitation project required GE working on three 9E.03 gas turbines.

Experts at GE worked closely with counterparts of its field services execution company, FieldCore, for stage three-bucket changeouts on three gas turbines apart from additional combustion check-up.

As the major electricity supplier in Nigeria, the NDPHC conducts around 35% of total generating capacity in the country with an overall of 4.0-gigawatt installed.

The rehabilitation is expected to increase the performance and reliability of the facilities in the production of electricity. This is also with the assurance of improving the unplanned downtime risk of these power plants.

More so, the NDPHC will be able to secure and restore the supply of up to 360-megawatt of electricity. This move could in turn, provide enough to serve around 2 million households.

According to reports, experts from GE get and NDPHC implemented several safety measures during the gas turbine project in Nigeria. They made use of PPEs and ensured the safety of workers against coronavirus by disinfecting and practising physical distancing.

General electric is a world energy leader. The company’s GE9X Jet Engine for the Boeing 777X recently received FAA certification.
