Atiku Abubakar: Dozens of Gotel Communications Staff Fired in One Day

The media company, Gotel Communications, owned by the ex-vice president of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar has dismissed dozens of its staff in one day. The staff were 46 in number and each got a letter of dismissal which had a signature of the general manager. It contained little information about the reason for the dismissal.

The letter only notifies them that their services are no longer necessary and that they will receive their entitlements immediately.

Gotel Communications is a privately-owned radio and television station that operates in north-east Nigeria. The company has a lingering history of leaving staff unpaid.

Media houses are among the least affected by the coronavirus lockdown which is why the dismissals are raising questions.
