AfCFTA and the UK sign MoU

The African Continental Free Trade Area, AfCFTA and the government of the United Kingdom, (UK) have formalised their shared interests in making the trade agreement a success after meeting at the Secretariat in Accra to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The UK High Commission in Accra issued a statement saying that Mr James Duddridge, the UK Minister for Africa, joined Mr Wamkele Mene, Secretary-General of the AfCFTA Secretariat, to sign the MoU.

“We are pleased to sign this MoU as it ushers us into a partnership for strengthening cooperation related to trade facilitation in Africa,” Mr Mene said.

The pair further discussed the progress that the AfCFTA made since January 2021 as well as the Secretariat’s ambitious future plans the statement said.
