Where is the FG on IPPIS Enrolment, UTAS and Payments of Lecturers?
The directive by President Muhammadu Buhari to pay up university lecturers does not accommodate ASUU lecturers as President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Prof Biodun Ogunyemi told the news agency of Nigeria.
The Prof argued that the directive was meant for federal workers who are on the Integrated Personnel Payroll Information System (IPPIS). Therefore the strike continues.
ASUU had suggested an alternative payment system, the University Transparency and Accountability Solution, UTAS, rather than enrol on the IPPIS. If the government adopts this system, it can likewise regulate payroll systems in the universities.

The FG says since the introduction of the IPPIS, it has rid the system of several ghost workers and made room for others. It was also made aware of all unapproved allowances through the IPPIS platform and had them cut off.

Ogunyemi revealed that the UTAS, is under scrutiny by the government and that it needs to go through an integrity test with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA). ASUU is now on the next stage of the integrity test after presenting UTAS at three government levels.
ASUU officials are going to meet with the presidency this week for a decision on the strike, IPPIS enrolment and payments. Meanwhile, most university students in Nigeria remain at home.
ASUU president also claims that universities will reopen as early as it takes the government to facilitate the integrity test.
