Mohammed Adamu, inspector-general of police (IGP) has agreed with South-East governors, on the implementation of community policing in the region. The IGP met with the governors Wednesday. After the meeting, David Umahi, Ebonyi state governor and chairman of the South-east governors forum talked to journalists.
The governor said that they have settled the differences they had last week over the IGP’s template. The terms for community policing in the south-east is fair to both parties. “We saw that his (IGP’s) idea on the issue can assist us”, he said.
He further explained the issue that they had earlier saying that “the state commissioners of police mistakenly constituted the community policing committee themselves”. When asked to inaugurate it, “we felt something was wrong”, he said.
The governors had accused the IGP of altering their agreement. The houses of assembly in the south-east was then invited to pass laws that will legally back up the zone on this establishment.
