The IGP Muhammed Adamu this Sunday morning announced that the police unit, Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) has been dissolved. The disbandment of SARS and end of the unit is going into effect immediately according to IGP Adamu.
The IGP gave a statement regarding the four days of public protest against SARS which saw thousands march across the country.
They demanded the end of SARS beginning with the #EndSars on twitter. Citizens made accusations that the SARS harasses, arrests, torture and kill people unlawfully.
The decision to End SARS was expected given the energy that went into the protest with celebrities home and abroad pitching in.

IGP Adamu said that the force is going to reposition SARS officers to join other police units and commands.

More so, the Nigerian police forming an investigation team which will include the civil society organisations and the human rights to work with the police in investigating alleged cases of human rights violations.
He said the force is forming a citizens and strategic stakeholders forum to interface police leadership at all levels.
