The 2020 World Investor Week (WIW) assembled by the International Organisation of Securities Commission  (IOSCO) is ongoing with the participation of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE). During the week-long event, the IOSCO will create awareness on the importance of educating and protecting investors, a feature the NSE is supplementing for investors in Nigeria in 2020.

As one of its top campaign pitch, it also highlights various initiatives by securities regulators like NSE in these areas. World Investor Week (WIW) took off on Monday, October 5, 2020, and will end Friday, October 9 2020.

NSE 2020 Awareness to Investors in Nigeria

The NSE is making efforts to advance its investment initiatives to encourage sustainable investment habits among investors.

They are therefore offering innovative products and services, executing product-specific training and workshops, commemorating Global Money Week, excursions to The Exchange under the X-Tours programme, and the annual national NSE Essay Competition.

In order to achieve this, it is encouraging investors to be smart with their investment in the Nigerian capital market by embarking on a fully virtual campaign. This will also offer a way to increase opportunities for retail investors in the capital market.

The NSE is scheduling an awareness program on its retail-focused products and services to hold on its social media platforms. That will be accompanied by trivia contests to reward winners with investments in available products.

There will also be a virtual engagement session with leading financial experts to drive the conversation about financial literacy.

During the WIW campaign, the Chief Executive Officer, NSE, Mr Oscar N. Onyema, OON said that “Financial inclusion is a priority for stakeholders in the capital market and The Exchange makes it a primary concern to contribute towards the achievement of Nigeria’s National Financial Inclusion Strategy of reducing the proportion of adult Nigerians that are financially excluded to 20 per cent in the year 2020”.

“We recognise that the ability to make well-informed financial decisions plays an important part in the ability of individuals to properly manage their financial affairs, a factor that can have either a negative or positive ripple effect on the economy”.

At the end of his statement, he expresses his excitement in participating in 2020 WIW and speaks of NSE’s integrity in financial literacy promotion.
