The Federal Government in Nigeria is charged with reducing unemployment in Nigeria and is considering an expansion of Npower beneficiaries by 50,000 in 2021.

The ministry of humanitarian affairs is proposing a budget of N400 billion for the 2021 fiscal year on its Social Investment Programme (NSIP). It presented a blueprint of the said proposal alongside the FG to the National Assembly.

With an available 400,000 spaces under the Npower scheme in 2020, it received over 5 million applications the FG said.

Increasing the N-Power beneficiaries by 50,000 in 2021 would lend N170.1 billion, an increase of N3.8 billion from the N166.3 billion of 2020 to personnel cost according to the document. The total sum of recurrent expenditure stands N350 billion with capital spending at N50 billion.

The job Creation Unit (JCU) gets 52.6% of 2021, which is more than half the total proposal for recurrent expenditure. The ministry will utilize the unit to implement programs components and innovation hubs.

This amounts to N200.3 billion for NPOWER and its affiliate sub-programs.

NPower is not the only scheme that will benefit the N400 billion in 2021, it also takes in GEEP – marketmoni, tradermoni and farmermoni.
