Nigerian Dr Cyprian Ngong lost his father to COVID-19 before vaccine arrival

Dr Cyprian Ngong is the first Nigerian to take the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.

During the rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine in Abuja on Friday, March 5, the Minister of Health Dr Ehanire Osagie iterated that front liners will get the vaccine first.

Dr Cyprian Ngong became the first Nigerian to take the COVID-19 vaccine since its arrival in Nigeria on March 2.

He works at the National Hospital in Abuja and has been at the isolation centre since March 2020, the inception of the virus in Nigeria.

Dr Cyprian apparently lost his father to COVID-19. During his speech, he said that “if only my dad had gotten the vaccine, but we lost him”. He said the fight is still on and we will win.

He got a vaccination card with a QR code which will be scanned details of the vaccine and the person displays on the screen and how many doses he got.

Faith Eragbai, Chief Nursing Officer at National Hospital, Abuja is the first female to get the COVID-19 vaccine in Nigeria.
