Governor Mohammed Bala of Bauchi State on Thursday announced in a state broadcast put a ban on Almajiri system in the state.
The poor living condition of the Almajiri children, governor Bala says may accelerate the spread of coronavirus.
He emphasised that the ban on Almajiri in his state is not against Islamic learning or scholarship. However, the learning system lacks structured classrooms, accommodation facilities, and feeding. On that note, Islamiyya schools are not affected by the ban as it appears to have adequate facilities.

Northern Governors seem to be in agreement to ban the system as Mohammed noted. Almajiris from Bauchi State in other states including Kaduna and Kano States are going to be sent back home.
The state is already preparing to receive them and will accommodate them at the NYSC Camp in Wailo. Their parents and guardians will be identified and united with their wards appropriately.
With that settled, “The Almajiri system is hereby banned in Bauchi State”, governor Bala said.

Bauchi is also prepping Almajiris from other States to return them safely to their States of Origin. The process will begin soon he added.
Aside from the new development with the Almajiris, the governor is also banning Okadas in Bauchi state. Most commercial motorcycle riders in Bauchi are unable to operate in neighbouring states due to a ban on them. The governor considers their relocation to Bauchi state a security threat to the state.
