For the third consecutive draw, 4,200 Express Entry candidates were issued Invitations to Apply (ITA) to Canada bringing the total in 2020 to 78,350 ITAs. The invitations sent exceeds the record-breaking number of 69,420 issued at the same time in 2017. The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) organised the latest Express Entry draw.

The recent Express Entry draw held on September 30. Candidates from all three of Canada’s main economic-class Immigration program – Federal Skilled Worker Class (FSW), Federal Skilled Trades Class (FST) and Canadian Experience Class (CEC) – were scored by the Comprehensive Ranking System CRS of 471.

There is also the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) where Canadian provinces and territories nominate individuals for immigration to Canada.

High CRS score determines which candidate in the classes would receive an invite. Several details are taken into consideration when scoring candidates.

Candidates who were successful and received the recent invites to Canada will further apply for a permanent residence permit which takes six months to process for Express Entry candidates.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the IRCC has made exceptions to their rules and not all programs of the Express Entry admitted candidates. The IRCC alternated between the CEC and PNP program draws March and the beginning of July. That not withstanding, ITAs for the two programs combined often amount to about 3,900 invitations.
