Coronavirus has now infected over 100,000 people around the world since its outbreak in December. More measures are been taken around the world to contain it. This has led Thailand to cancel the visa on arrival policy for 18 countries and visa exemption for three. They are concerned with the spread of the COVID-19 through the Southeast Asian country.
During a conference earlier Thai interior affairs, Anupong Paochinda said that all travellers from China, South Korea, Italy, Iran as well as Thais must present a health certificate before getting on the flights to Thailand. Without a health certificate, travellers are sent back including Thai citizens.
He also said a 14-day quarantine inside the Novotel Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport hotel will be arranged for travellers from these countries. South Korea, Italy and Hong Kong have also been withdrawn by Thailand.
As long the suspension lasts, visa to Thailand has to be processed through the Thai diplomatic missions. The new method now requires travellers to present a medical certificate that shows they are free of COVID-19.
Countries on the list include:
Ethiopia, Bulgaria, Bhutan, China, (Taiwan), Cyprus, Ethiopia, Fiji, Georgia, India, Kazakhstan, Malta, Mexico, Nauru, Papua New Guinea, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan, and Vanuatu.
