All participating countries of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AFCFTA) have a uniform procedure and documentation requirements for shipping.
However, certain factors can make the procedures differ from country to country. These factors could include the type of goods or means of transportation and risk management involved.

Shipments originating from or entering Nigeria within the AFCFTA have to issue these specific government licences:
- Licence from the Nigeria Export Promotion Council (NEPC)
- Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) licence
- Licence from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration, NAFDAC
- Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service licence
After these licences, apply to a Designated Competent Authority for AFCFTA certificate of origin and attach them with these:
- Nigeria Customs Bill of Entry
- Commercial invoice
- Bill of lading
- Certificate of analysis
- Packing list
- Supplier of producer’s declaration form
- Origin declaration form
The licences are specific to Nigeria and required for AFCFTA trading. The later documents apply for all AFCFTA and can be acquired in any country within the area.
