Local vaccine company, BVNL to make COVID-19 vaccine available in Nigeria
Biovaccine Limited, (BVNL) is working on manufacturing and delivering a COVID-19 vaccine to Nigerians.
Its partnership with international technical partners, who are currently in discussion with the World Health Organization, WHO on the approval of COVID-19 vaccines will enable it to accomplish this.
Among the first steps taken to plan for COVID-19 vaccine in Nigeria is the importation of modular facilities to prepare for filling and finishing of vaccines in Nigeria.
According to BVNL, it is awaiting approval from the WHO to adopt a COVID-19 vaccine among the available ones.

Biovaccines earlier this month signed MOU for Market Access (Memorandum of Understanding) with the Federal Ministry of Health. With this, the Nigerian market will have access to any approved COVID-19 vaccine through BVNL.

The company will set up a WHO standard vaccine production facility in Nigeria with the help of its international partners who will act as the third party in the bulk manufacture of COVID-19 vaccine.
So far, only the UK has approved a COVID-19 vaccine (Pfizer & BioNTech) where vaccination is almost ready to commence.
There are several conditions in the logistical aspects of storing, transporting, and delivering doses of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine if it becomes an option in Nigeria.
Aside from the challenges of these conditions, Biovaccine could also have a difficult task in convincing people to vaccinate.
Biovaccines Nigeria Limited, in partnership with May & Baker Nigeria Plc, is playing a key role in vaccine production in Nigeria.
The company is positioning itself to ensure that coronavirus vaccines are served in Nigeria as with other countries.
It could also hasten documentation, registration, commissioning processes to build a site for COVID-19 vaccine purposes.
