People in Nigeria seem to be taking the appointment of the new tax office (Federal Inland Revenue Service) head badly. Many people seem to claim that the move is tribalistic.
President Muhammadu Buhari appointed Muhammad Nami to head the FIRS. The Kaduna-born tax consultant is a replacement of the former head Babatunde Fowler whose tenure in the office expired on 9 December 2019.
In addition to that President Buhari named a new board for the tax agency.
On the board is one member from each of the six geographical zones. Statutory representatives from a select number of ministries and government agencies are also on the board.
According to Garba Shehu, who spoke on behalf of President Buhari, Nami has the best training which is needed for the job. He also said that Nami is an accounting and Management professional with highly rated qualifications and professional practice. Many professional bodies have also licensed the new head of tax office in Nigeria who began his career at PFK in 1993.
Nami is currently the managing consultant of Manam professional services in Kaduna, Abuja and Niger state. He is also a member of the presidential committee on the Audit of stolen assets that were recovered in November 2017 .
