Prof. Agboola Ibrahim Gambari has been appointed as the new Chief of Staff by Buhari after Abba Kyari died from COVID-19 on April 18. The debate about who becomes the new Chief of Staff to President Buhari has gone on for too long.

Reports show that the search for a new COS was already underway before the announcement of Kyari’s death. However, Aisha Buhari opposed to it earlier and apparently, it didn’t take too long for them to resue on the decision.

Before filling the shoes of his Kyari, President Buhari took the time to mourn his loss calling him his friend.

Professor Agboola Ibrahim Gambari is the fifth Chief of Staff to ever emerge in Nigeria after its initiation in 1999. Here is a profile of Prof. Agboola Ibrahim Gambari, the New Chief of Staff to President Buhari.

Who is Prof. Agboola Ibrahim Gambari the New Chief of Staff to Buhari?

The new Chief of Staff Prof. Gambari to Buhari is 78 years old from the Kwara State of Nigeria. He was the former Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations for the Department of Political Affairs. He is also a pathfinder at the Kwara State University.

Prof. Gambari is also a direct relative to the Emir of Illorin. Other sides of Prof. Gambari that we know include the fact he was one of the supporters of the execution of activist Ken Saro Wiwa.

Shuffling through the government body to produce the most competent member as his Chief of Staff must have been a challenge for the president. The appointment of Prof. Gambari is yet to be confirmed by the Presidency.
