The NSE held its 5th Market Data Workshop 2020 virtually, on November 13 in collaboration with InfoWARE Limited. The Chief Executive Officer, NSE, Mr Oscar N. Onyema, OON as well as several sponsors were at the event.

During the event, experts highlighted the importance of making market data available which also appears to have enhanced earnings for the NSE since April 2020. Acknowledge

Onyema noted that despite the COVID-19 pandemic, “the market saw an upswing since April 2020 and has so far gained +31.67% as of November 12”. The NSE had recorded negative performance in the first quarter of the year. More so, the NSE All-Share Index (“ASI”) posted quarterly returns of -20.65 per cent in Q1’2020.

This can be “attributed this to smart investors bargain hunting and the release of positive year-end financial results of several listed companies, coupled with improved dividend declarations” Onyema said.

Perception is key to a good investment and market data demonstrates the opportunities that abound in the market. More so, investment decision-making is sequential to quality market data.

According to experts, in making sound financial decisions, more investors are relying on market data as a key tool. The ability to deal with today’s problems and mitigating the crises of the future is also dependent on market data.

A financial building block or investment models that can stand the test of time can strategically encourage investors. The year 2020 which opened with unusual events is proof that a reliable real-time and historical data that is easy to understand is critical to building these models.
