Blogging is supposed to be done for fun or as a hobby. Unfortunately, it has become the job of 35 per cent Nigerian youths with some kind of education but no jobs. Bloggers in Nigeria don’t make as much money as it seems but how much is it?

Making money as a blogger anywhere in the world not just Nigeria depends heavily on traffic. It should not be disappointing to hear that most bloggers in Nigeria are not able to survive on Adsense earning. But this is due to the fact that the largest traffic that an average Nigerian blog gets daily is somewhere between 500 – 1000. This could include the most popular blogs in Nigeria.

Some people are giving up on blogging as a source of livelihood and going back to searching for jobs they are likely never going to find.

How much are bloggers in Nigeria making?

Though it might seem unrealistic, but $10 passes as to how much some bloggers in Nigeria make monthly. Aside from the few numbers of visitors, there are many other reasons for that.

Blog Niche – Most people would hold onto this as the main reason why some blogs make little money. In some ways it is true, but in another way, it isn’t as all blog niche is capable of making money if there is traffic.

However, 10 clicks per day for a keyword like “insurance” is definitely more favourable than a lot of other keywords that drive a thousand traffic. This is why some would say that bloggers should niche choose carefully.

Audience Device – If a blog in Nigeria attracts more people within the country, there is 50 50 chance they use opera mini. This browser is disadvantageous for bloggers as Google ads do not display on opera mini. So, daily earnings often amount to nothing for bloggers in Nigeria who especially have an audience in Nigeria using that browser.

Wrong theme and low quality – Too many ads on a site can look messy and make a user experience bad but many think it is a way to make extra money. Combining ads from Viglink, Chitika, Adsense, or Media Net is possible without spoiling the look of a site. WordPress themes and enabling auto ads are often better choices for a growing website.
