What an enabling environment for business in Nigeria would look like with digital economy if there is more infrastructure.

During the pandemic, digital actions took the center stage in almost all enterprises and businesses. Essentially, it changed how work is accomplished as well as consumer experiences.

More so, the pandemic propelled the adoption of digital devices as high profile online meetings, online conversations and e-learnings expedited.

Businesses that wanted to remain relevant, had to break all gaps and keep up with the digital centre stage. It shows the possibility in the trial.

Digital economy is thriving in Nigeria, and the country is trying to avoid a huge gap.

Referencing the NBS report, the ICT grew Nigeria’s economy with a total contribution of 15.05% at the end of 2020.

Isa Pantami, Nigeria’s Minister of Communications & Digital Economy, emphasised that “technology was the lifeline of other sectors from education to medical and financial services” in the report.

Building infrastructure for digital economy in Nigeria

Notwithstanding the adoption of digital tools for a lot of activities, many businesses and companies are stalling when it comes to digital transformation. They are yet to experience the massive enabling role of digital means for different reasons.

One of the reasons is infrastructure and access to the internet. To keep up with a high contribution of the ICT to Nigeria’s GDP, there has to be infrastructure and the public and private sector in Nigeria must collaborate for that.

It is crucial that business, companies and SMEs take interest in digital means and ensure they embrace it.

The United Nations, UN has made a pledge to support Nigeria in building its digital economy as Mrs Amina Mohammed, the Deputy Secretary-General recently revealed.
