Freedom of Information, FOI in Nigeria recently announced the results of an assessment and ranking which took place on Monday 28, September. The event which was held in Abuja had 211 corporations belonging in the Executive, the Legislature and the Judiciary.
FOI assessments and ranking are based on transparency, level of disclosure, compliance with the Freedom of Information Act, 2011 from these public institutions.

The Bureau of Public Service Reforms, BPSR, won with a total of 58.7 points.
The Nigerian Investment Promotion Company, NIPC was second with 54 points.
Nigeria Export Promotion Council, NEPC was third with 43.5 points.
There were several organisers of the assessment and ranking event by FOI. Right to Know (R2K) Nigeria, Media Rights Agenda (MRA), BudgIT, Basic Rights Watch (BRW) were on the list.

The method used by the FOI in the assessment of institutions includes:
A compliance evaluation
Evaluation of the level of responsiveness to information requests with regards to time
If staff undertook the mandatory FOI training
FOI Desk Officers arrangement as mandated
In another segment, the Chief Executive/Executive Director, Nigeria Export Promotion Council (NEPC), Segun Awolowo, made a disclosure regarding Nigeria’s export in 2018.
According to Awolowo, Nigeria’s export value to African countries was beyond $6.99 billion and for the rest of the world, $45.92 billion in 2018. He made this disclosure during the Ecobank Digital Series virtual meeting on Africa Trade Conference 2020.
