The Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, has issued a statement saying that there is no active 5G in Nigeria at the moment.
Having been notified of a false claim circulating social media that the Fifth Generation internet (5G) will be activated in Lagos in the next few days. The NCC statement said that it has not made the licence available to anyone as it is not its job.
The NCC is just able to “assigns spectrum to operators for deployment of any service when allocated by the National Frequency Management Council (NFMC)”.
NCC Executive Vice Chairman, Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, however, agreed to have approved a trial test of 5G in Nigeria in November. The trial lasted for a duration of three months from November 2019. The statement also said it has since been concluded and installation decommissioned.
DAILY POST received the signed statement stating that “the Commission has unequivocally stated that there is no deployment of 5G in Nigeria at the moment.”
NCC further clarified the reason for the installation of fibre optic cables within Lagos and Abuja. It is to strengthen the existing 3G and 4G infrastructure.
The controversial fifth-generation 5G, of mobile technology, has more improved capacities than the 4G technology. It is a basis for Big Data, Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI) and similar new technologies to integrate with life.
